【Synopsis】
In order to show the true life of herdsmen, this documentary
sheds light on the Zhaxi Cairen family as the typical representative of
herdsmen. Shot in summer and winter, the film begins with the trifles of daily
life and gradually develops to the problems they faced. The Zhaxi Cairen family
lives on the plains of the unfrequented Qinghai Yushu plateau, and they find
themselves without sufficient food for the winter when severe snows blocks
routes to their mountain. The family faces the threat of huge financial losses,
calling into question their ability to continue paying for their children’s
education and sustaining the family. They ask around for help, but to no avail.
This film attempts to give the viewer a more direct experience of the helplessness
and difficulty of herding life, where the livelihood of any one individual is
left up to the whims of the weather. The Zhaxi Cairen family exemplifies a
classic example of those transitioning from the nomadic life to permanent
settlement. New life, new fortunes, and new confusion – this family is the most
authentic portrayal of contemporary herdsmen life.
이 다큐멘터리는 목축민의 진정한 삶을 보여주기 위해 짜시 차이런(扎西才人) 가족을 전형적인 목축민의 대표로 선정하여, 여름과 겨울에 나누어 그들의 사소한 일상부터 그들이 직면하는 문제까지 영상에 담아냈다. 짜시 차이런네 가족이 지내고 있는 칭하이 위슈(青海玉树)에 위치한 인적이 드문 고원 목장은 여름에는 즐겁게 지낼 수 있으나 겨울에는 살기가 매우 힘들다. 폭설로 인해 입산이 곧 통제되고 차가 들어갈 수 없게 되면 월동을 위한 사료 준비를 아직 마무리하지 못한 짜시 차이런네는 큰 경제적 피해를 입게 될 것이고, 아이들의 학교 등록금과 생활비에 문제가 발생할 것이다. 그들은 열심히 주변에 도움도 청해봤지만 결국 좋은 대안을 찾지 못한다...
이 영화는 제3자의 시각으로 목축민들의 기후에 의존하며 살아가는 현실의 고난과 무력감을 보다 더 직관적으로 보여준다. 짜시 차이런네는 “유목민로부터 목축민으로 전환”의 전형적인 예를 보여주고 있다. 새로운 삶과 새로운 만남, 그리고 새로운 막막함… 짜시 차이런네 가족의 이야기는 현대를 살아가는 목축민의 가장 리얼한 삶의 모습을 묘사하고 있다.
